Is life fair and equal for everyone?

6/5/2014

Do you think life is fair for everyone?

From your research and your own life experiences can you find any evidence of the ways in which the courts and other organisations like schools, sporting clubs, support groups, governments and even family environments are fair and aim to achieve the 'common good' for society?

Or can you provide any examples where the opposite is true?

Remember confidentiality and personal safety. Do not include information that should remain private. Your personal examples should always begin with 'a person I know.....' or 'something I heard about..........'

No, life is not fair for everyone because they want to get anything they want but they can't get it no matter what they do to try and get it. this is why we have courts just in case if someone does something really stupid like steal from someone for no reason.

this is why justice is fair for all.
bye :)

You have tackled the issue in a mature way Andrew. You are beginning to see things from different perspectives.

Life may not be fair for everyone. i had a bad day when i had been hit in the stomach and......... then my sister raided my bag for my football. then someone wouldn't move their tray when they were asked 2 days ago to move. then i got hit in the head with my basketball at the end of the day

Is a bad day the same as life not being fair?

I find that life sometime isn't fair maybe because we don't understand or we think it someone else fault but we all have opinions that's what special about us.
Someone I know makes me feel upset about everything I do, like I say something or do something and they attack me (by words not by actions) does anyone know how to fix this other than staying away (2 people have done this, one person I have no more contact with)

Life is not fair but sometimes it can by getting your own way. Or you agree with others like in fights or even discussions with your friends, family or even teachers. In Australia we have it easy but in other areas around the world people starve and live on the streets life is simple for us but in other areas people starve and die! so next time you think life is unfair you should think about others lives too

Shanay I am pleased to see the empathy you have developed for others through our work on migrating and refugees. You have made such an important and relevant connection to our theme of justice. Well done!

A thoughtful response Emily. It is good to see you are reflecting on your own circumstances and trying to make things better.

Sometimes it isn't fair but some people make a bigger deal about it then they need to but sometimes people just accuse you of something without hearing your side of the story

I agree Mia - sometimes the way we react to things makes a huge difference in the outcome and ultimately justice.

Smetimes life isn't fair because of the decisions you or other people make. life also isn fair when people accuse you of doing something when they haven't heard your side of the story. Life also isn't fair when you've had a bad day. Lots of people say "life isn't fair" when they don't get their way.

Sometimes people confuse not getting their way with justice. It's important to see things from more than just your own point of view.

Life can be fair at some stages but not all the time.

Sometimes people can be blamed for something they didn't do and usually they would say "Life isn't fair".

An interesting view John, I wonder why it isn't fair all the time... Thank you for sharing your thoughts!

Well I don’t really think that it is because while we are here with homes and safety and basic rights, there are people in other countries who are starving and on the streets. We get the laws and they get killed. Life is only fair on our side of the bargain they are stuck like that. So life isn’t REALLY fair for EVERYONE but it is for us. But then on the other hand innocent people HERE are dying so laws are not doing THAT much for some people it’s like living in one of those countries.

Life isn’t always fair and sometimes it deserves to not be fair because what if you didn’t do the right thing and you think you’re going to get off scot free but you get in trouble. We also need to learn life isn’t fair because our destiny also chooses if you deserve to be fair or not. That’s why we need to adapt to get ready to see if life is going to be fair or not.

life is isn't fair because they want anything unless if they try but no matter what they do to try and get it like someone stole something for no reason that’s really stupid and dumb and more likely end up in court.

You are right, we can't always have what we want. I'm sure lots of us would love to be snorkelling with tropical fish on one of the warm pacific islands... But unfortunately we can't all do that every day!

Life is clearly not fair or equal for everyone: people die and are tortured or just killed or in poverty everyday and it can be hard to stop it. Then, if you look at most people in safer countries like Australia who may think they don't have enough or get everything you will notice how truly lucky we are and how cruel and unfair it is to the others who are homeless or are running low on necessities. In some countries people only get one meal a day and that might be the same thing over and over again like rice, when people like us get at least three meals a day and they are usually different things. So the question is , "Is life fair and equal for everyone?" Our answer is; no.

And what a great response! Well articulated and thought out. You have captured the essence of our unit of work in your reflection - the concept of justice certainly goes beyond laws and court rooms.

Sometimes life is fair but sometimes it isn’t fair to some people depending who they are and there culture. Sometimes at school and the sport I do it can be a little bit unfair but I would get a turn another day. Sometimes the Coach, Teacher or anyone else you have or see is most probably sharing the jobs or special things that you are doing but it is fair to everyone then it wouldn’t start fights or any arguments that can start easily and struggle to finish the argument or a fight. Also you should be aware of the argument or fight can go on for days, weeks or even months.

Is life fair and equal for everyone?
Yes because if you do a crime you should be punished by jail time and if you don’t do anything bad you will get friends and a good job to get paid. If they want to get a good job and get paid they need to have an education [everyone needs an education to get a good job] and in life you need to earn the money to buy a car or a house [rent a house]. If they are a criminal they need to take life by the horns because a bully is always a bully but eventually he will get bullied someday by someone older faster stronger.
Life is equal because we all have to grow up eventually and take matters into are own hands.

Is life fair equal to everyone?
no its not fair because there are people I n other counties and Australia getting miss treated. and as you may know there are people trying to get people to do things like change there religion. and if they don't they will get hurt or killed. so life is not fair because even if one country's is being unfair it spoils their equality

Thank you for your response boys. You have made a crucial connection to our peace philosophy and the learning journey we've undertaken - equality. Knowing equality doesn't mean the 'same thing' for everyone but that every one is entitled to have the same opportunities was an important learning objective! Well done.

yes it is it just depends the steps you take in life and the path you take and what you do you could get locked up in jail for something bad you did that was but if you take a good path you'll find life fair unlike if you were locked up in jail
